Since July 16, 2021, more than 1,000 people have died each day from COVID-19.

Data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health shows that more than a thousand people died daily from Covid-19 since July 16, 2021. The peak was on July 27, 2021, with 2,096 deaths.

The more virulent Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus kept the death toll high despite the implementation of PPKM (Community Activity Restrictions) in various regions. Nationally, the total death toll during the Covid-19 pandemic reached 90,552. East Java had the highest number of deaths, at 19,621, followed by Central Java with 18,578 and Jakarta with 11,879.

The government implemented the PPKM policy since July 3, 2021, to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus. However, the level 4 PPKM policy is not the only way to reduce the rate of coronavirus infections.

The public also needs to be disciplined in implementing the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. Furthermore, the public is urged to reduce mobility and avoid crowds.
