This week's Covid-19 statistics in Europe still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. Eighteen countries recorded an increase in deaths this week, while eleven others reported deaths, but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are the Netherlands, Norway, Finland, Estonia, and Slovakia. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, October 17, 2022, amounted to 89, with a weekly growth exceeding 88.24 percent.
The Netherlands recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Europe, with weekly growth reaching 188.89 percent. Worldometer recorded 26 deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's reported nine deaths.
Next is Norway, which recorded a 166.67 percent increase in deaths compared to the previous week. The country reported eight more deaths than the previous week's three. Finland reported two deaths (a 100% increase), Estonia saw a 90.91% increase in deaths, and Slovakia reported 32 deaths (an 88.24% increase).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, Germany had the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe, with 885 deaths. Death reports in the country increased by 87.9% compared to the previous week. Following Germany, Russia recorded 710 deaths (a decrease of 2.87%), the UK recorded 567 deaths (an increase of 72.87%), Italy recorded 478 deaths (an increase of 29.54%), and France recorded 368 deaths (an increase of 28.67%).
A total of 4,075 deaths were recorded in Europe over the last seven days. This accounts for 48.9 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, which totaled 8,334. The number of deaths in Europe increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,246 deaths.
