This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. This week, 16 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 10 others reported deaths but in smaller numbers.
Percentage-wise, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Hong Kong, Iraq, Vietnam, Singapore, and Bangladesh. The total deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, July 5, 2022, amounted to 54, with a weekly growth exceeding 120 percent.
Hong Kong ranks first, with a 250 percent weekly increase in deaths. Worldometer recorded seven deaths in this country, an increase compared to the previous week's reported two deaths.
Iraq follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 200 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in this country was recorded at 12. Deaths in Vietnam increased by 200%, Singapore recorded 10 deaths (a 150% increase), and deaths in Bangladesh increased by 120%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Taiwan, with 702 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 28.37% compared to the previous week. Following that, India recorded 203 deaths (a 29.3% increase), Japan recorded 192 deaths (a 104.26% increase), Thailand recorded 108 deaths (an 11.48% decrease), and the Philippines recorded 74 deaths (a 45.1% increase).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 1,546. This accounts for 16.86 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 9,167 deaths. The death toll in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,655 deaths.
