Protecting Themselves and Their Families: The Main Reason People Want to Get Vaccinated

A survey by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) reveals that 54% of Indonesians are willing to participate in the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination program. The main reason for their willingness is self-protection; 69.8% of respondents stated this.

55.3% of respondents are willing to be vaccinated to protect their family and those around them. 35.7% are willing because the vaccine has passed testing by the Indonesian Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM).

Furthermore, 32.3% of respondents are willing due to halal certification. Those willing due to moral obligation and the requirement of their jobs (frequent travel) each account for 31.4%.

30.5% of respondents are willing because the vaccine meets World Health Organization (WHO) standards. Meanwhile, those willing because President Joko Widodo and their idols had received the vaccine previously account for 12.8% and 4.6%, respectively.

KIC conducted an online survey from February 13-16, 2021. This survey on reasons for willingness to be vaccinated was conducted among 2,883 respondents who had not yet received and were willing to participate in the COVID-19 vaccination.
