In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Honduras, Canada, Uruguay, Colombia, and Mexico. The total deaths in these five countries as of Thursday, October 20, 2022, were 230, with a weekly growth rate above -4.11 percent.
Honduras recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 266.67 percent. Worldometer recorded 11 deaths in the country, an increase from the three reported the previous week.
Canada followed with a weekly increase in deaths of 149.02 percent. The country reported 127 deaths, compared to 51 the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, Uruguay saw a 50% increase in deaths, Colombia reported 13 deaths (unchanged from the previous week), and Mexico saw a 4.11% decrease in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days occurred in the United States, with 1,382 deaths. This represents a 20.71% decrease compared to the previous week. Following the US, Brazil reported 360 deaths (down 17.43%), Canada reported 127 deaths (up 149.02%), Chile reported 110 deaths (down 5.98%), and Mexico reported 70 deaths (down 4.11%).
The total number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was 2,169. This accounts for 28.23 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, totaling 7,684. The number of deaths in the Americas is down from the previous seven-day period, which totaled 2,692.
