The Indonesian Ministry of Health's National Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI) shows that the prevalence of stunting among toddlers in East Java reached 19.2% in 2022. This province ranked 25th highest in Indonesia for toddler stunting prevalence last year.
East Java successfully reduced the number of stunted toddlers by 4.3 percentage points from the previous year. In 2021, the prevalence of stunting among toddlers in this province was recorded at 23.5%.
There are 20 regencies/cities in East Java with a prevalence of stunting above the provincial average. The remaining 18 regencies/cities are below the average prevalence of stunting in South Sulawesi.
Jember Regency had the highest prevalence of stunting in East Java in 2022, reaching 34.9%. This figure increased by 11 percentage points from the 23.9% prevalence in 2021.
This contrasts sharply with Surabaya City, which has a stunting prevalence of 4.8%, the lowest in East Java.
