This week's COVID-19 statistics in Europe show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, 14 countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 19 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Portugal, Spain, Malta, Switzerland, and Greece. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Friday, October 28, 2022, was 173, representing a weekly growth of over 73.47 percent.
Portugal recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in Europe, with weekly growth reaching 233.33 percent. Worldometer recorded 20 deaths in the country, up from six the previous week.
Spain follows with a weekly increase in deaths of 169.57 percent. The country reported 62 deaths, compared to 23 the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, Malta saw a 100% increase in deaths, Switzerland also saw a 100% increase, and Greece recorded 85 deaths (a 73.47% increase).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, Germany had the highest number of deaths in the past seven days in Europe, with 1,093 deaths. This represents a 7.37% increase compared to the previous week. Following Germany, Russia reported 614 deaths (down 6.4%), Italy reported 571 deaths (down 0.52%), France reported 513 deaths (down 1.16%), and Ukraine reported 162 deaths (up 26.56%).
The total number of deaths in Europe over the past seven days was 4,153. This accounts for 50.86 percent of global COVID-19 deaths, which totaled 8,166. The number of deaths in Europe is down from the previous seven-day period, which totaled 4,919.
