This week's COVID-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 20 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while eight others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, Iran (Islamic Republic of), and Afghanistan. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, July 25, 2022, amounted to 216, with a weekly growth exceeding 166.67 percent.
The Philippines ranked first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 2,800 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 29 deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported single death.
Following the United Arab Emirates, with weekly death growth reaching 500 percent. The number of deaths in this country was reported as six, compared to one the previous week.
Among the other top five countries, deaths in Sri Lanka increased by 200%, Iran (Islamic Republic of) recorded 164 deaths (up 173.33%), and deaths in Afghanistan increased by 166.67%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Taiwan, with 428 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 22.46% compared to the previous week. Following that, the highest number of deaths in India was recorded at 324 (up 5.88%), Japan with 240 deaths (up 46.34%), Iran (Islamic Republic of) with 164 deaths (up 173.33%), and Thailand with 149 deaths (down 7.45%).
Total deaths in Asia over the last seven days were recorded at 1,875. This accounts for 14.9 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 12,584. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,654.
