This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a contrast to the previous situation where death tolls continued to rise. This week, four countries still recorded an increase in deaths, and four others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Hong Kong, India, Israel, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia. The total deaths in these five countries as of Friday, April 7, 2023, were 130, with weekly growth above 0 percent.
Hong Kong ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 133.33 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 7 deaths, a 16.67 percent increase compared to the previous day.
India follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 40.91 percent. The daily death toll increased by 14.81% compared to the previous day, which recorded 54 deaths.
Next is Israel with 25 deaths (up 38.89%), Indonesia with 32 deaths (up 14.29%), and Saudi Arabia with 0% change in deaths.
Looking at the number of death reports, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 164 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 29.61% compared to the previous week. Following that, India had the second highest number of deaths with 62 (up 40.91%), South Korea recorded 54 deaths (down 0%), the Philippines recorded 39 deaths (down 35%), and Indonesia recorded 32 deaths (up 14.29%).
Total deaths in Asia during the last seven days were recorded at 397. This accounts for 13.22 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 3,004. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 459 deaths.
