Based on PATH data, Indonesia required 868,202 cubic meters of oxygen per day solely for Covid-19 patients until Thursday, July 1, 2021. This amount is equivalent to more than half of Southeast Asia's total oxygen needs.
The oxygen needs of the Philippines and Malaysia to handle Covid-19 remain below Indonesia's, exceeding 200,000 cubic meters per day. The Philippines required 259,302 cubic meters of oxygen, while Malaysia needed 259,041 cubic meters.

The surge in Covid-19 cases caused an oxygen shortage in Indonesia due to the increased demand. The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, ordered that the supply of industrial oxygen be diverted specifically to meet medical needs.
Medical needs require up to 800 tons of oxygen per day. Meanwhile, the oxygen production reserve is 225,000 tons per year.
The government continues to urge the public to practice the 3M's to suppress the spread of the coronavirus: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap and running water.
PATH estimates daily oxygen needs per country based on Covid-19 case reports. The figures do not reflect the oxygen needs of patients not infected with Covid-19.
