Today, Thursday, August 5, 2021, two provinces recorded record daily increases in confirmed COVID-19 cases: Bali and Central Sulawesi. Both regions broke daily and annual records.
COVID-19 cases in Bali have sharply increased over the past week, reaching an addition of 1400 cases today. This is the highest number ever recorded. This level of increase has occurred twice this week alone. Looking at the last 30 days, the daily increase in COVID-19 cases in Bali has even doubled.
Meanwhile, the cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths in Bali is reported at 1726. The total number of positive COVID-19 cases is 67,720, with 19,200 still undergoing treatment. The largest number of COVID-19 patients in this region are adults aged 31-45 years (17,510). The smallest number is among infants (0-5 years) at 1973.
The weekly bed occupancy rate (BOR) in Bali continues to show an upward trend. Today, the BOR shown on the Ministry of Health's website is 79.6 percent, up from 79.1 percent the previous day. The current situation indicates that Bali has begun to experience increased healthcare demand over the past 15 days. Previously, the BOR in this region was 72.3 percent.
This is understandable given the surge in infections over the past week. According to the Ministry of Health's data, weekly confirmed positive cases per 100,000 population increased from 183.7 to 197.3 cases. However, the local government continues to work on improving healthcare facilities in response to the continuously increasing infection trend in recent weeks.
Another region breaking records is Central Sulawesi. Today, there were 838 newly confirmed cases. The previous highest increase was recorded last Tuesday, October 6th, when the number of confirmed cases increased from one to 24.
The latest data for Central Sulawesi shows that the largest number of COVID-19 patients are adults (31-45 years) at 5807. This is followed by young adults (19-30 years) at 5243, early elderly (46-59 years) at 3580, elderly (over 60 years) at 1777, and children (6-18 years) at 1562. The smallest number is among infants (0-5 years) at 454.
The weekly bed occupancy rate (BOR) in Central Sulawesi also shows an upward trend. This morning, the BOR was recorded at 68.2 percent, up from 67.1 percent the previous day. Previously, the region reached its highest point on Wednesday, August 4th, at 68.2 percent. The current situation indicates that Central Sulawesi has begun to experience increased healthcare demand over the past 15 days. Previously, the BOR in this region was 61.6 percent.
According to the Ministry of Health's data, weekly confirmed positive cases per 100,000 population in this region increased from 91.5 to 150.2 cases.
