The easing of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia has led to a recovery in the hotel sector. This recovery is evident in the increase in the hotel occupancy rate (HOR) for star-rated hotels.
Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded a HOR of 45.62% for star-rated hotels in October 2021. This figure is up 8.98 percentage points from September 2021, which stood at 36.64%.
Compared to October 2020, the HOR for star-rated hotels in October 2021 increased by 8.14 percentage points. In October 2020, the HOR for star-rated hotels was 37.48%.
The highest HOR was recorded in East Kalimantan at 62.40%, followed by Yogyakarta Special Region and South Sumatra at 61.65% and 59.25%, respectively. Bali had the lowest HOR at 17.73%.
Most provinces experienced a month-on-month increase in HOR. The highest increase occurred in Yogyakarta Special Region, rising 20.52 percentage points from 41.13% to 61.65%, while the lowest increase was recorded in Maluku at 0.05 percentage points, from 42.72% to 42.77%.
However, some provinces experienced a month-on-month decrease in HOR. The highest decrease was recorded in Bengkulu at 14.28 percentage points, from 56.58% to 42.30%, while the lowest decrease was recorded in Southeast Sulawesi at 3.28 percentage points, from 43.09% to 39.81%.
Based on their classification, all star-rated hotels in October 2021 experienced a month-on-month increase in HOR. The highest increase occurred in five-star hotels, rising 13.21 percentage points from 33.49% to 46.70%.
Four-star hotels experienced a 10.46 percentage point increase, from 37.64% to 48.10%. Meanwhile, three-star hotels saw a 7.78 percentage point increase, from 37.70% to 45.48%.
Two-star hotels saw a 6.97 percentage point increase, from 37.91% to 44.88%. Finally, one-star hotels saw a 1.65 percentage point increase, from 24.33% to 25.98%.
