The 2022 Health Statistics Report published by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) shows that many mothers in several regions have limited education regarding postpartum family planning (KBPP).
Papua had the lowest percentage of mothers receiving counseling on KBPP in 2022, at 47.44%. This is significantly lower than the national average of 78.16%.
Southeast Sulawesi followed in second place with a proportion of 61.57%, closely followed by Maluku in third place with 62.76%.
Aceh also made the list, with 64.36% of mothers receiving KBPP counseling. Other regions included North Sumatra, West Sulawesi, and West Papua, as shown in the graph above.
Areas with the highest KBPP counseling rates were DKI Jakarta (92.18%); Bali (88.48%); East Java (84.46%); Lampung (83.91%); and South Kalimantan (83.87%).

According to the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) Yogyakarta website, KBPP is an effective method for delaying the next pregnancy by at least two years or for those who do not wish to have any more children. KBPP services are usually provided within 42 days after childbirth.
"This avoids unwanted pregnancies, allowing each family to plan safe pregnancies and prevent stunting," wrote BKKBN Yogyakarta on its website.
Furthermore, the benefits of KBPP are felt by at least three parties. For the mother, it improves her health, enabling her to provide exclusive breastfeeding and good parenting.
For the baby, it improves health and ensures adequate breastfeeding. For the family, it increases happiness and family well-being.
