This week's Covid-19 statistics in Europe still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. This week, 20 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 13 others reported deaths but in smaller numbers.
Percentage-wise, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Ukraine, Montenegro, Norway, the Netherlands, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, July 4, 2022, amounted to 84, with a weekly growth exceeding 133.33 percent.
Ukraine ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 1,000 percent. Worldometer recorded 22 deaths in this country, an increase compared to the previous week's reported two deaths.
Montenegro follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 400 percent. The number of deaths reported in this country was five, compared to one the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, deaths in Norway increased by 200%, the Netherlands reported 26 deaths (up 188.89%), and deaths in Bosnia and Herzegovina increased by 133.33%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Germany with 558 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 26.24% compared to the previous week. Following Germany, the highest number of deaths was in the UK with 462 deaths (up 32.76%), Italy with 426 deaths (up 11.81%), Russia with 379 deaths (down 11.66%), and Spain with 285 deaths (up 11.76%).
Total deaths in Europe over the past seven days were recorded at 2,932. This accounts for 31.5 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 9,309. The death toll in Europe increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,645 deaths.
