Deputy Minister of Finance (Wamenkeu), Suahasil Nazara, stated that from January to October 2025, 15,845 enforcement actions have been taken against illegal cigarettes in Indonesia.

These actions were carried out by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance along with other related agencies.

The number of illegal cigarettes seized totaled 954 million sticks, an increase of 40.9% compared to the results of enforcement actions in the same period last year.

Of the 954 million illegal cigarette sticks, 73.8% were machine-rolled clove cigarettes (SKM), 20.8% were machine-rolled white cigarettes (SPM), and 5.4% were other types of illegal cigarettes.

Although the number of illegal cigarettes seized has increased, Suahasil said the amount is still low compared to the products circulating in the market.

"Because the estimated illegal cigarettes circulating in the market are at least between 7%-10%," he said during a press conference in Jakarta, Thursday (20/11/2025).

"So we will strengthen the crackdown on illegal cigarettes, carried out by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise in cooperation with all other law enforcement agencies," he added.
