According to research by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC), almost all Indonesian citizens surveyed believe that engaging in sports, skincare, and dressing neatly can improve mood and increase happiness.

For respondents, self-care is not just about external appearance, but also about how one restores energy and allows themselves space to rest.

"The majority of respondents admitted to having engaged in self-care activities in the past year as a form of stress management and an effort to improve their mood," KIC explained in its report.

Among various activities, skincare and exercise were the most frequently chosen activities for improving or enhancing mood.

The following are activities that respondents believe can improve mood, according to KIC's 2025 survey:

  • Skincare: 74.1%
  • Exercising: 70.4%
  • Body treatments at spa and wellness centers: 61.5%
  • Watching favorite series on online streaming services: 53.3%
  • Dressing neatly: 52.7%
  • Self-care at beauty clinics: 46.7%
  • Using make-up: 40.9%

These activities also led respondents to become familiar with various brands related to the activities they undertake to improve their mood.

For example, the three most recognized skincare brands were Wardah (91.6%), Skintific (79.4%), and Garnier (72.2%).

Meanwhile, the top three brands recognized by respondents for the make-up category were Wardah (93.5%), Maybelline (83.8%), and Make Over (83.8%).

This online survey was conducted from August 2-6, 2025, involving 542 respondents aged between 17-58 years. The proportion of female respondents in the survey was 66.6%, while male respondents were 33.4%.
