Trends in TB Estimation, Notification, and Treatment in Indonesia over 6 Years

Data from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) shows that the trends for estimated, notified, and treated tuberculosis (TB) cases in Indonesia fluctuated from 2020 to September 2025.

For estimated cases over the past six years, the figures ranged from 800,000 to 1.09 million cases per year. The lowest occurred in 2020 with 824,000 cases, and the highest in 2024 with 1.09 million cases.

Kemenkes states that these case estimations are derived from the World Health Organization's (WHO) *Global TB Report*.

Case notification, on the other hand, refers to the official reporting of an individual diagnosed with TB to national health authorities. Kemenkes recorded notifications ranging from 390,000 to 860,000 cases per year.

Similar to the trend in estimated cases, the lowest notification occurred in 2020 with 393,320 cases, and the highest in 2024 with 856,420 cases.

In terms of percentage, case notifications have not yet approached the total estimations. Notifications ranged from 45% to 78% annually. The highest percentage of notified cases occurred in 2024, reaching 78% of the total estimated cases.

Furthermore, treated tuberculosis cases ranged from 360,000 to 780,000 cases per year. The proportion of cases treated was between 85% and 92% annually.

As shown in the graph, the highest number of treated cases occurred in 2024, reaching 788,760 cases, or 92% of notified cases. Meanwhile, the latest data for September 2025 shows 542,160 TB cases treated, or 90% of notified cases.

Kemenkes notes that the 2024 data was finalized on March 17, 2025. The 2025 data, on the other hand, was processed by SITB as of September 27, 2025.
