According to the Ministry of Health's report, there were 67,030 cases of dengue fever (DBD) in Indonesia from the beginning of the year until June 12, 2025.
West Java had the highest number of DBD cases by mid-year, reaching 17,281 cases, equivalent to 26% of the total national DBD cases.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has not yet received reports of DBD cases in the provinces of Papua Pegunungan, South Papua, and Southwest Papua.
"We used to think that dengue fever only occurred in low-lying areas, not mountainous regions. However, with global warming, dengue cases are now shifting towards higher altitudes," said Fadjar at the 2025 National Dengue Program Meeting in Jakarta on Thursday (June 19, 2025).
The following is a list of the 10 provinces with the highest number of DBD cases in Indonesia as of June 12, 2025:
1. West Java: 17,281 cases
2. East Java: 10,290 cases
3. Bali: 6,443 cases
4. Central Java: 6,279 cases
5. Lampung: 4,858 cases
6. South Sulawesi: 2,318 cases
7. West Nusa Tenggara (NTB): 2,251 cases
8. North Sumatra: 1,860 cases
9. Banten: 1,711 cases
10. Riau: 1,668 cases
During this period, the Ministry of Health recorded 297 deaths from DBD nationwide. West Java again had the highest number of deaths with a total of 61, followed by East Java with 57 deaths, and Central Java with 53 deaths.
According to Fadjar, the high incidence of DBD deaths in these three regions is due to their dense populations and high population mobility.
"West Java has the highest number because the (province) is very large and has a large population. So their burden is greater," he said.
