Generative AI Assisting Global Citizen Nutrition and Health Activities by 2025

A PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) survey conducted in early 2025 revealed that global consumers are already incorporating generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) into their nutritional and health needs.

Nearly 50% of global consumers are comfortable using GenAI to support meal planning and menu suggestions.

Global consumers are also using GenAI for creating personalized nutrition and diet plans, and even for medical diagnosis and/or treatment recommendations.

The following are the complete results of the PwC survey regarding global consumer activities involving GenAI in meeting their nutritional and health needs:

• Supporting meal planning and menu suggestions: 47%
• Creating personalised nutrition and diet plans: 45%
• Creating personal training and exercise regimes based on my vital statistics: 45%
• Supporting grocery and food budgeting based on current habits: 41%
• Providing predictive grocery shopping lists based on previous ordering/habits: 36%
• Connecting with smart kitchen appliances to suggest meal ideas and recipes based on ingredients currently on hand: 33%
• Providing a medical diagnosis and/or treatment recommendations: 31%
• None of the above: 15%

Based on these findings, PwC stated that the willingness of global consumers to use AI in this context reflects a broader demand for highly personalized experiences to meet their dietary needs and preferences.

According to PwC, this situation reflects a significant opportunity to create an ecosystem that unites convenience, shopping, health, and technology.

"Companies that can effectively integrate these elements will benefit by offering the guidance consumers need to shop, cook, and eat well, supported by AI-based solutions," PwC stated in its report.

The PwC survey was conducted in January-February 2025. A total of 21,075 consumers aged 18 and older from 28 countries and regions participated in the survey. Interviews with industry executives took place in May 2025.
