According to ResMed, an Australian health technology company, poor sleep quality can have a variety of negative impacts.
This is recorded in ResMed’s 2025 Global Sleep Survey, a report from a collaborative survey by ResMed and PureSpectrum.
According to the survey, the majority of global respondents (51%) felt drowsy throughout the day after experiencing poor sleep.
Poor sleep quality also resulted in a bad mood (48%), irritability (36%), morning dizziness (32%), and difficulty concentrating (31%).
According to ResMed's Chief Medical Officer, Carlos Nunez, poor sleep quality can also increase the risk of cognitive decline, anxiety or depression, and physical health problems.
"For individuals with untreated or poorly managed sleep apnea, this risk may be even greater, leading to increased risk for other chronic health and life-threatening conditions like heart failure, diabetes, and even stroke. That’s why talking to your doctor about treating disrupted sleep is so important," said Nunez in the ResMed report.
ResMed conducted this survey from December 12-28, 2024, involving 30,026 respondents from 13 countries. Respondents in each country were assumed to proportionally represent the gender and age of the population.
