According to a Populix survey, 82% of Indonesian respondents want to work abroad to earn higher incomes.
Furthermore, 62% of respondents were motivated to work in another country to advance their careers, 61% wanted to improve their quality of life, and 54% sought international experience.
"The majority see it as an opportunity to improve their well-being, both economically, career-wise, and in terms of quality of life," wrote Populix in its report, *Attractiveness of International Careers for Indonesian Job Seekers*.
Some respondents also wanted to build a global network (33%) and learn new cultures (29%).
Populix also asked about the most preferred regions for working abroad. The results showed that 67% of respondents targeted Asian countries.
Others wanted to work in European countries (52%), Australia and Oceania (32%), the Middle East (16%), and North America (12%).
Populix conducted this online survey on March 5-6, 2025, involving 1,000 Indonesian citizens. Respondents consisted of 51% male and 49% female.
The majority of respondents were from Java (86%), followed by Sumatra (12%), and other islands (3%). Respondents were dominated by the 25-30 age group (36%) and the 18-24 age group (24%).
