According to a survey by the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII), the most widely used type of AI application or service domestically is the virtual assistant.

AI virtual assistants are applications operable via voice commands, such as Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, Google Assistant, and Microsoft Cortana.

These applications can perform tasks such as reading text messages or emails, searching for phone numbers, reminding users of schedules or appointments, and so on.

The APJII survey found that at the beginning of 2024, 11.77% of Indonesian respondents used AI virtual assistants.

Other respondents used AI services or applications related to education/learning, creativity/entertainment, health, financial management, and home security monitoring, with proportions as shown in the graph.

However, cumulatively, the proportion of AI users in Indonesia remains relatively small, at only 24.72% of total respondents.

Meanwhile, the majority, or 75.28% of respondents, have never used AI.

APJII conducted this survey in December 2023-January 2024, involving 8,720 respondents proportionally distributed across 38 Indonesian provinces.

The survey was conducted using face-to-face interviews, with respondents aged at least 13 years old.
