This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. Seven countries recorded increased deaths this week, while three others saw a decrease in the number of deaths.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand. A total of 85 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Friday, March 31, 2023, representing a weekly growth of over 20 percent.
Hong Kong recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 200 percent. Worldometer recorded three deaths in the country, an increase from the one death reported the previous week.
India follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in the country grew by 109.52 percent, totaling 44 deaths. Daily death statistics show a 37.5% increase compared to the previous day's 32 deaths.
Next is Indonesia with 28 deaths (up 33.33%), Saudi Arabia with a 33.33% increase in deaths, and Thailand with six deaths (up 20%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 233 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 3.32% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, the highest death tolls were recorded in the Philippines (60 deaths, up 1.69%), South Korea (54 deaths, up 1.89%), India (44 deaths, up 109.52%), and Indonesia (28 deaths, up 33.33%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days reached 459. This accounts for 15.25 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, which totaled 3,009. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 444 deaths.
