European Covid-19 statistics this week still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 14 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 13 other countries recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Denmark. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Monday, December 12, 2022, was 85, with a weekly growth exceeding 35.71 percent.
Switzerland recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Europe, with weekly growth reaching 500 percent. Worldometer recorded six deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's reported single death.
Bosnia and Herzegovina follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 200 percent. The number of deaths reported in this country was nine, compared to three the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, Slovakia reported 20 deaths (up 66.67%), Slovenia saw a 50% increase in deaths, and Denmark reported 38 deaths (up 35.71%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Germany, with 768 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 9.25% compared to the previous week. Following Germany, France recorded 470 deaths (up 3.52%), Italy 430 deaths (down 21.96%), Russia 380 deaths (down 0.26%), and the United Kingdom 269 deaths (down 27.3%).
The total number of deaths in Europe over the past seven days was 2,992. This accounts for 34.25 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 8,736 deaths. The number of deaths in Europe decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,185 deaths.
