The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 3.96 million cases by Sunday, September 25, 2022. According to GISAID data, Russia recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 12,289 new cases. This represents 0.31 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Hungary follows with a weekly growth of Omicron cases reaching 28.57 percent. Daily data shows a 28.57 percent increase in new Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 28 cases.
Next is Brunei Darussalam with an increase of 2,825 Omicron cases (up 9.54%), Guinea with an increase of 370 Omicron cases (up 5.11%), and Canada with a 4.89 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 177,790 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 22,427, a 0.27 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
