This week's Covid-19 statistics in the Americas show a decline in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Five countries reported an increase in deaths this week, while eight others reported fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Paraguay, Uruguay, Canada, Brazil, and Chile. The total number of deaths in these five countries for the week ending October 23, 2022, was 858, representing a weekly growth of over 9.43%.
Paraguay had the highest weekly increase in deaths, at 100%. Worldometer recorded two deaths, compared to one the previous week.
Uruguay followed with a 50% weekly increase in deaths. Yesterday's daily death toll was nine. Canada reported 336 deaths (up 32.81%), Brazil saw a 31.67% increase, and Chile a 9.43% increase.
Looking at the total number of reported deaths, the highest seven-day death toll in the Americas was in the United States, with 1,561 deaths (a 1.33% decrease compared to the previous week). Brazil followed with 395 deaths (up 31.67%), Canada with 336 deaths (up 32.81%), Chile with 116 deaths (up 9.43%), and Mexico with 66 deaths (down 7.04%).
The total number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was 2,542. This accounts for 27.56% of global Covid-19 deaths, totaling 9,223. This is an increase compared to the previous seven-day period, which recorded 2,502 deaths.
