The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the COVID-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.57 million cases by Saturday, June 24, 2023. According to GISAID data, the United States has recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, at 2.41 million. This represents 36.65 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Following the US, the United Kingdom reported a 0.07 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week, totaling 1.45 million cases (an increase of 1.45 million compared to the previous week). Germany reported 573,120 cases (up 0.08%), Japan reported 412,410 cases (up 0.07%), and France saw a 0.19 percent increase to 364,940 cases compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 38,420 as of today, a 0.23 percent increase from the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
