This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. Seven countries recorded increased deaths this week, while four others saw a decrease in the number of deaths.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Iran (Islamic Republic), India, Afghanistan, the Philippines, and Israel. A total of 165 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Tuesday, February 7, 2023, representing a weekly growth exceeding 35.71 percent.
Iran (Islamic Republic) ranks first, with a 70 percent weekly increase in deaths. Worldometer recorded 17 deaths in this country, a 70 percent increase compared to the previous day.
India follows, with a weekly growth in deaths reaching 66.67 percent. Five deaths were reported in this country, compared to three the previous week.
Rounding out the top five are Afghanistan with 15 deaths (up 66.67%), the Philippines with 90 deaths (up 52.54%), and Israel with an increase of 35.71% in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, Japan recorded the highest number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days, with 1,756 deaths. This represents a 21.01% decrease compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea reported 194 deaths (up 4.86%), the Philippines 90 deaths (up 52.54%), Israel 38 deaths (up 35.71%), and Indonesia 28 deaths (up 27.27%).
A total of 2,182 deaths were recorded in Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 33.68 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, totaling 6,479. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,601 deaths.
