The Indonesian government has extended the validity period of passports from 5 years to 10 years. This is stipulated in Article 2A of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Regulation (Permenkumham) Number 18 of 2022, which was enacted last week (September 29, 2022).
"Currently, the public still pays the same fee, namely Rp 350,000 for a non-electronic ordinary passport and Rp 650,000 for an electronic ordinary passport," said the Acting Director General of Immigration, Widodo Ekatjahjana, in a press statement on Tuesday (October 4, 2022).
Widodo did not specify whether there would be a change in passport issuance fees following the change in validity period. However, he stated that his office is preparing technical guidelines at immigration offices and system infrastructure to implement Permenkumham Number 18 of 2022.
"Therefore, we ask for the public's understanding. As soon as (the technical guidelines) are ready, we will immediately inform you," Widodo said.
He explained that the 10-year passport validity period does not apply to passports issued before the enactment date of the regulation. This means that passports issued before September 29, 2022, will still have a 5-year validity period.
Furthermore, this 10-year validity passport is only granted to Indonesian citizens (WNI) aged 17 years or older, or who are married.
