In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Lebanon, and Thailand. The total deaths in these five countries for the week of March 19, 2023, amounted to 119, with a weekly growth rate above -14.29 percent.
India recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 260 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 18 deaths, up 20 percent compared to the previous day.
Indonesia follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 41.18 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll was recorded at 24. The Philippines recorded 63 deaths (up 6.78%), Lebanon saw a 0% change in deaths, and Thailand saw a 14.29% decrease.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 321 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 26.21% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, the Philippines recorded 63 deaths (up 6.78%), South Korea recorded 63 deaths (down 17.11%), Iran (Islamic Republic) recorded 37 deaths (down 52.56%), and Indonesia recorded 24 deaths (up 41.18%).
Total deaths in Asia over the last seven days were recorded at 567. This accounts for 16.94 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 3,348. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation, which was 721.
