This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. Twelve countries recorded increased deaths this week, while nine others saw a decrease in the number of deaths.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Israel, Sri Lanka, Bahrain, Lebanon, and Afghanistan. A total of 57 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Saturday, October 22, 2022, representing a weekly growth of over 60 percent.
Israel recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 1,500 percent. Worldometer recorded 32 deaths in the country, a 100 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Sri Lanka follows with a weekly increase in deaths reaching 500 percent. Six deaths were reported in the country. Daily statistics show a 20% increase in deaths compared to the previous day's five deaths.
Next, deaths in Bahrain increased by 200%, Lebanon recorded eight deaths (a 100% increase), and Afghanistan recorded eight deaths (a 60% increase).
Looking at the total number of reported deaths, Taiwan recorded the highest number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days, with 440 deaths. Reported deaths in the country increased by 16.71% compared to the previous week. Following Taiwan, Japan recorded 396 deaths (down 8.97%), the Philippines recorded 267 deaths (up 7.66%), South Korea recorded 169 deaths (down 0%), and Indonesia recorded 117 deaths (up 31.46%).
A total of 1,711 deaths were recorded in Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 18.6 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, which totaled 9,200. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,626 deaths.
