A Kurious survey by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) reveals that the majority, or 79.3%, of Indonesians believe that consuming fast food is unhealthy. This is because fast food can trigger various health problems.
Obesity is the biggest health problem linked to fast food consumption, according to the Kurious survey, with a percentage of 66%.
Next, cancer ranks second as a health problem triggered by fast food consumption, at 40.8%.
This is followed by other health issues such as digestive problems (37.1%), diabetes (36.2%), stroke (35.7%), heart disease (30.3%), kidney disorders (19.3%), and liver damage (14.3%).
On the other hand, 6.1% of respondents cited other health problems. However, 9.8% of respondents believe that fast food does not pose any health risks.
The Kurious survey also shows that the majority of Indonesians consume fast food more than once a week. Women almost dominate all groups in terms of fast food consumption frequency per week.
“Women consume fast food more often than men,” according to the Kurious report.
The Kurious survey was conducted on 629 respondents using computer-assisted web interviewing (CAWI) from January 31 to February 9, 2023. The survey has a margin of error of 3.9% with a 95% confidence level.
The respondents in this survey were predominantly female (51.8%), with the majority aged 25-34 years (30.8%), from various regions in Java outside of Jakarta (63.1%).
