The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) has set the cost of Hajj pilgrimage (BPIH) for 1444 H/2023 M at Rp90.05 million. This figure is a 7.91% decrease compared to the BPIH for 1443/2022 M, which was Rp97.79 million.
The breakdown is as follows: the Hajj Pilgrimage Trip Cost (Bipih), or the cost borne by the pilgrims, is Rp49.81 million, or 55% of the total BPIH.
This component covers flight costs, living costs, and a portion of the masyair service package costs.
Flight costs amount to Rp32.74 million, while living costs are 750 Riyal, equivalent to Rp3.03 million.
Meanwhile, the benefits to be covered by the Hajj Finance Management Agency (BPKH) amount to Rp40.23 million, or 45% of the total BPIH.
Compared to last year, the decrease in BPIH this year is also driven by a decrease in the proportion of costs borne by the BPKH. On the other hand, the proportion of costs borne by the pilgrims has increased.
In 2022, the cost borne by pilgrims was Rp39.89 million (40.79%), while the benefits covered by the BPKH amounted to Rp57.91 million (59.21%).
The trend shows that BPIH has generally increased since 2010. In 2010, for example, BPIH was only Rp34.5 million. BPIH continued to increase until 2015, then slightly decreased in 2016.
Then, BPIH increased again from 2017 to 2022. BPIH experienced a significant increase in 2022, after the Hajj pilgrimage was canceled for two years by the Saudi Arabian government. This was also partly due to adjustments in the benefits covered by the BPKH.
