In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Peru, Guatemala, the United States, Mexico, and Brazil. The total deaths in these five countries as of Wednesday, February 8, 2023, were 2,260, with a weekly growth rate above -11.9 percent.
Peru ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths of 79.06 percent. Worldometer recorded 342 deaths in the country, a 3.01 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Next is Guatemala, which recorded 12 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 3.45% decrease in deaths compared to the previous day. Deaths in the United States increased by 9.21%, while deaths in Mexico decreased by 6.64%, and deaths in Brazil decreased by 11.9%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest seven-day death toll in the Americas occurred in the United States, with 1,150 deaths. Death reports in the country increased by 9.21% compared to the previous week. Following this, Brazil reported 459 deaths (down 11.9%), Peru reported 342 deaths (up 79.06%), Mexico reported 281 deaths (down 6.64%), and Chile reported 102 deaths (down 17.07%).
The total number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was 2,367. This accounts for 38.44 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, totaling 6,157. The death toll in the Americas increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,222 deaths.
