The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.14 million cases by Tuesday, September 27, 2022. Based on GISAID data, Pakistan recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 1,977 new cases. This represents 0.04 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Mauritius followed with a weekly growth of 13.22 percent in Omicron cases. Daily data shows a 1.73 percent increase in new Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 3,519 cases.
Furthermore, Morocco saw a 5.94 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 464 cases compared to the previous week. Aruba experienced a 5.43 percent increase, reaching 524 cases, and Algeria saw an increase of 201 Omicron cases (a 5.24% rise).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 22,667, a 0.65 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
