This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, five countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while eight others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Iran (Islamic Republic), India, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Cyprus. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Saturday, January 7, 2023, was 59, with a weekly growth rate exceeding 33.33 percent.
Iran (Islamic Republic) recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 144.44 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 22 deaths, a 29.41 percent increase compared to the previous day.
India follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 100 percent, with a reported 16 deaths. Daily statistics show a 100% increase in deaths compared to the previous day, which was eight deaths.
Next, deaths in Saudi Arabia increased by 44.44%, deaths in Lebanon increased by 33.33%, and Cyprus recorded four deaths (up 33.33%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 1,978 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 13.78% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea recorded 401 deaths (down 4.75%), the Philippines recorded 95 deaths (down 42.77%), Indonesia recorded 80 deaths (down 6.98%), and Israel recorded 42 deaths (down 14.29%).
The total number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days was 2,708. This accounts for 29.21 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 9,271 deaths. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,163 deaths.
