Surabaya Contributes Half of East Java's Positive Covid-19 Cases

The East Java Provincial Government announced 1,114 confirmed positive Covid-19 cases on Sunday (May 3rd). The majority of patients, 820 people or 73.6%, are still undergoing treatment. 177 patients, or 15.9%, have recovered, while 117 people, or 10.5%, have died.

East Java has the highest number of new positive Covid-19 cases in Indonesia, with 80 new cases on Sunday (May 3rd). Surabaya has the highest number of confirmed positive Covid-19 cases, with 554. This number is expected to rise further following the discovery of a cluster at the Sampoerna cigarette factory, where at least 65 workers have been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Sidoarjo Regency follows with 119 confirmed positive Covid-19 cases. Magetan Regency and Lamongan Regency have 48 and 46 cases respectively.
