COVID-19 statistics in Europe this week still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. This week, 17 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 15 others recorded fewer deaths.
Percentage-wise, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Ukraine, Malta, Latvia, the United Kingdom, and Lithuania. The total deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, August 16, 2022, amounted to 487, with a weekly growth exceeding 30.77 percent.
Ukraine recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in Europe, with weekly growth reaching 166.67 percent. Worldometer recorded 16 deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's reported six deaths.
Malta follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 100 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll was recorded at two. Latvia recorded eight deaths (up 60%), the UK recorded 444 deaths (up 41.4%), and Lithuania saw a 30.77% increase in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest seven-day death toll in Europe occurred in Italy with 924 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 11.32% compared to the previous week. Following Italy, Germany recorded 840 deaths (down 4.33%), France recorded 462 deaths (down 13.16%), Spain recorded 451 deaths (up 20.27%), and the UK recorded 444 deaths (up 41.4%).
The total number of deaths in Europe over the past seven days was 4,616. This accounts for 31.87 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 14,482. The death toll in Europe increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 4,571 deaths.
