The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 1.53 million cases by Monday, June 20, 2022. The United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 3.17 percent. GISAID recorded 1.19 million Omicron cases in the US. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.09 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Japan, which recorded 1.74 percent more Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 0.03 percent compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, Omicron cases in India increased by 2.91 percent to 66,419 compared to the previous week; in Israel, they increased by 9.37 percent to 56,554; and in Belgium, they increased by 7.36 percent to 41,101.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 11,824, a 0.76 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
