The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.19 million cases by Saturday, April 1, 2023. Montenegro recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 9.52 percent. GISAID recorded 460 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 1.1 percent compared to the previous day.
Jamaica follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the increase in Omicron cases in this country grew by 4.32 percent. A total of 2,053 new Omicron cases were reported. Daily statistics show a 4.32 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 1,968 cases.
Next is Ukraine, with 1,765 additional Omicron cases (up 3.88 percent). Singapore saw a 2.43 percent increase in Omicron cases, totaling 20,834 compared to the previous week, and Mauritius reported 6,002 additional Omicron cases (up 2.41 percent).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, 34,963 Omicron cases were recorded, a 0.22 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
