The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 1.67 million cases by Monday, March 14, 2022. The United Kingdom recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 9.27 percent. GISAID recorded 776,370 Omicron cases in the UK. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.83 percent compared to the previous day.
The United States followed with weekly Omicron case growth reaching 9.99 percent. Daily Omicron cases in the US increased by 0.41 percent compared to the previous day, totaling 658,050 cases.
Furthermore, the number of Omicron cases in France increased by 8.36 percent to 59,989 cases compared to the previous week. India reported 28,953 Omicron cases (a 24.32 percent increase), and Poland saw a 6.17 percent increase to 28,860 cases compared to the previous week.
As of today, Indonesia has recorded 8,097 Omicron cases, a 0.62 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has steadily risen.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
