This week's COVID-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, 10 countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 12 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Cyprus, India, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Azerbaijan. The total deaths in these five countries as of Sunday, November 6, 2022, amounted to 423, with a weekly growth exceeding 42.86 percent.
Cyprus ranks first, with a 100 percent increase in weekly deaths. Worldometer recorded six deaths in the country, an increase from three the previous week.
Next is India, which recorded 98.18 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. The number of deaths in this country was reported as 109 higher than the previous week's 55. Deaths in Hong Kong increased by 45.1%, deaths in Indonesia increased by 44.52%, and deaths in Azerbaijan increased by 42.86%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Taiwan with 464 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 5.94% compared to the previous week. Following that, the highest number of deaths was recorded in Japan with 373 deaths (up 2.47%), the Philippines with 252 deaths (down 0.4%), Indonesia with 224 deaths (up 44.52%), and South Korea with 215 deaths (up 36.94%).
Total COVID-19 deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 1,835. This accounts for 21.7 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, which totaled 8,455. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,617 deaths.
