Although the mask mandate has been lifted and activity restrictions have been eased, the public still needs to remain vigilant. This is because the trend of COVID-19 transmission in DKI Jakarta is starting to rise again.
This is evident, among other things, from the increase in the COVID-19 positivity rate in the capital city, which reached 3.7% as of June 7, 2022. A month earlier, DKI Jakarta's positivity rate was still at 1.8%.
The positivity rate is the proportion of people who test positive for infection out of the total number of people tested.
A low positivity rate means that only a small number of people are infected out of the entire population tested. Conversely, a high positivity rate means that a greater number of people are infected among the entire population tested.
Previously, DKI Jakarta's COVID-19 positivity rate had fallen to around 1% after Eid al-Fitr in early May 2022.
However, in the first week of June 2022, the average positivity rate in DKI Jakarta was 3.35%.
According to the spokesperson for the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, five provinces experienced an increase in active COVID-19 cases in the last week: DKI Jakarta (30%), Banten (38%), West Java (18%), Yogyakarta (45%), and East Java (37%).
"Although the increase in COVID-19 cases is not yet significant, we should learn from the increase in cases during the COVID-19 waves we have experienced together," said Wiku, as quoted from the Covid.go.id website on Thursday (June 8, 2022).
"The virus is still around us. Remember, health protocols are the key to success during this period of economic recovery and community activity," Wiku concluded.
