This week's Covid-19 statistics in Europe show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a contrast to the previous situation where death tolls continued to rise. This week, 16 countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 18 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Sweden, Slovenia, Greece, the Netherlands, and Ukraine. The total number of deaths in these five countries for the week of August 14, 2022, was 178, with a weekly growth rate exceeding 60 percent.
Sweden ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths of 166.67 percent. Worldometer recorded eight deaths in the country, an increase from the three reported the previous week.
Slovenia follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in the country grew by 91.67 percent. The number of deaths reported was 23, compared to 12 the previous week.
Rounding out the top five are Greece with 100 deaths (up 85.19%), the Netherlands with 31 deaths (up 72.22%), and Ukraine with 16 deaths (up 60%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Italy, with 949 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 10.39% compared to the previous week. Following Italy, Germany reported 840 deaths (down 5.19%), the United Kingdom reported 740 deaths (up 17.83%), Spain reported 573 deaths (up 52.8%), and France reported 527 deaths (up 5.61%).
Total deaths in Europe over the past seven days were recorded at 5,233. This accounts for 33.79 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 15,486. The number of deaths in Europe increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 5,018.
