The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 2.61 million cases by Sunday, October 23, 2022. Brunei Darussalam ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases of 5.45 percent. GISAID recorded 3,194 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 2.5 percent compared to the previous day.
Brazil follows with a weekly growth in Omicron cases of 3.78 percent. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 1.28 percent compared to the previous day, totaling 72,049 cases.
Furthermore, Indonesia saw a 2.58 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 24,635 cases compared to the previous week. Canada reported 190,840 new Omicron cases (a 2.02% increase), and Malaysia reported 19,802 new Omicron cases (a 1.73% increase).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 24,635, a 0.69 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
