The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.13 million cases by Friday, October 28, 2022. According to GISAID data, Romania recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 9,191 new cases. This represents 0.18 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Next is Brunei Darussalam, which reported a 5.13 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 2.18 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, Russia saw a 4.96 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 19,358 cases compared to the previous week. Malaysia reported a 4.61 percent increase, totaling 20,462 cases, while Germany saw an increase of 465,380 cases (a 4.31% rise).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases increased by 0.34 percent compared to the previous day, reaching 25,118 cases. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
