This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, eight countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 19 others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Afghanistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh. The total deaths in these five countries for the week of October 2nd, 2022, amounted to 34, with a weekly growth exceeding 33.33 percent.
The United Arab Emirates recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 200 percent. Worldometer recorded three deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's single death.
Next is Singapore, which recorded deaths 200 percent higher than the previous week. The number of deaths in the country was reported as nine, higher than the three recorded the previous week. Afghanistan recorded four deaths (up 100%), Nepal's deaths increased by 100%, and Bangladesh's deaths increased by 33.33%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 612 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 16.05% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea recorded 329 deaths (down 8.1%), Taiwan recorded 310 deaths (up 8.77%), the Philippines recorded 217 deaths (down 11.43%), and India recorded 168 deaths (down 2.89%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 2,093. This accounts for 25.53 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 8,197. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,360.
