This week's Covid-19 statistics in Europe still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 20 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 11 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are the Netherlands, Moldova, Sweden, Latvia, and Estonia. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Saturday, December 24, 2022, was 122, with a weekly growth exceeding 53.33 percent.
The Netherlands ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths of 316.67 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 25 deaths, a 150 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Next is Moldova, which recorded deaths 250 percent higher than the previous week. The number of deaths in this country was reported as seven, higher than the previous week's two. Sweden recorded 45 deaths (up 200%), Latvia 22 deaths (up 69.23%), and Estonia saw a 53.33% increase in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Germany, with 884 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 3.7% compared to the previous week. Following Germany, France recorded 793 deaths (up 6.02%), Italy 667 deaths (up 6.04%), Russia 386 deaths (up 0.26%), and Spain 241 deaths (up 2.12%).
The total number of deaths in Europe over the past seven days was 3,740. This accounts for 32.86 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 11,383. The number of deaths in Europe increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,637 deaths.
