Tourism was one of the sectors impacted by the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. This is due to restrictions on public mobility to suppress the spread of the coronavirus. However, the number of foreign tourist visits showed a slight increase in July 2021.
According to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), there were 138,967 foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in July 2021. This figure is up 1.25% compared to the previous month, which recorded 137,247 foreign tourist visits.
Compared to the same period last year, foreign tourist visits decreased by 10.77%. In July 2020, there were 155,742 foreign tourist visits to Indonesia.
Cumulatively, foreign tourist visits reached 937,747 times from January to July 2021. This figure is down 71.42% compared to the first half of 2020, which saw 3,281,542 visits.
In July 2021, most foreign tourist visits to Indonesia originated from Timor Leste, namely 76,700. This figure is equivalent to 55.17% of the total foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in July 2021.
Malaysia was in second place with 45,000 foreign tourist visits to Indonesia. Then, foreign tourist visits from China and the United States were 3,150 and 2,560, respectively.
From January to July 2021, most foreign tourist visits to Indonesia originated from Timor Leste, namely 483,920. This was followed by Malaysia with 292,650, China with 37,630, and Papua New Guinea with 16,560.
