Based on the Global Hunger Index (GHI) data, Indonesia's hunger index was the third highest in Southeast Asia in 2022.
A GHI score below 9.9 points indicates low hunger, followed by 10-19.9 points (moderate); 20-34.9 points (serious); 35-49.9 points (alarming); and above 50 points (extremely alarming).
Indonesia received a score of 17.9 points, falling into the moderate level. This placed Indonesia 77th out of 121 countries. This score is above the global average of 18.2 points.
Meanwhile, the country with the highest hunger index in Southeast Asia in 2022 was Timor Leste, reaching 30.6 points or falling into the serious level. Timor Leste ranked 110th globally.
Laos ranked second in Southeast Asia with a score of 19.2 points, also in the moderate level.
On the other hand, the country with the lowest hunger index in Southeast Asia was Vietnam, with a score of 11.9 points, also in the moderate category. Thailand followed with the next lowest score of 12 points, also classified as moderate.

5. Myanmar: 15.6 points
6. Malaysia: 12.5 points

The GHI score is used to comprehensively measure and track the hunger situation at the global, regional, and national levels. Indicators included in the GHI formula reflect calorie deficiency and malnutrition.
The GHI index score is measured based on four components: undernourishment, stunting, wasting, and child mortality.
